My name is Miss Kaley Thompson. I am a mother to two young children, stepmom to a teenager and have worked as a certified Alberta teacher since 2003.
When I began my journey as an educator, I was placed in a grade one classroom for my first observation. Ms. Linda Fleenor, a tiny, energetic lady with a big smile, welcomed me and asked me to crawl through a tiny paper door into her classroom! Little did I know that this tiny door was actually the entrance to Wonderland and a foreshadowing of my future in education.
This woman, who I like to refer to as, “The Tiny Teacher,” was an inspiration. She was loved by all; strangers who met her became instant “friends,” and her smile and sweet words always made a person feel good. I paid very close attention and took lots of notes for my University class... I wanted to be just like Linda.
When my class was over and it was time for me to move on with my courses, Ms. Fleenor gave me a book, “The Teeny Tiny Teacher,” and I have read that book to my students and have created activities for the children, just like Linda’s, for the past 21 years. I even had the opportunity to be her colleague and taught just down the hallway! I was so fortunate to have my mentor, my inspiration, only a few steps away!
A few short years ago, The Tiny Teacher, Ms. Linda Fleenor, passed away. My heart broke. I vowed that I would spread kindness, in her honor, every single day of my life. I vowed that she wouldn’t be forgotten; that her light didn’t just go out.
It is my pleasure to introduce, The Tiny Teacher/Le petit prof - an education solution for families in Alberta.
The Tiny Teacher is a small group, inclusive, K-6, homeschool-based, education solution for families seeking options for their children during this pandemic and beyond.
I look forward to connecting with you and beginning the journey!
Warm, kind and fuzzy wishes,
Miss Kaley Thompson
